look up - to search, to find a vocabulary in the dictionary

If you don't know the meaning of that verb, you should look it up in your dictionary.

You cannot look up every word in your dictionary during the test.

 

look at - watch sth

Look at it! I have no idea how to solve this problem.

Look at your shoes! They are all dirty!

 

look for - search

He looks for his keys every morning.

They are looking for a new flat at the moment.

 

Look out! - Watch out! Be careful!

Look out! There is a car!

Look out! Do not burn yourself!

 

look down - to look from a higher point to a lower one

He is going to look down from the bridge.

They will never want to look down from that skyscraper.

 

look down on to look at somebody (with displeasure or hate)

He looked down on me as if he had never done anything similar as I did.

I don't like way he looks down on me every time.

 

look up to - to admire sb

He looked up to his father all his life.

You should not look up to him because he is a criminal.

 

look forward to - to enjoy waiting for sth/sb

I am looking forward to your response.

I look forward to seeing you again.

 

look after - to take care of

She looks after her grandma every day.

It is very important to look after your family.

 

look like - to seem similar to

He looks like his father.

They looked like total lunatics in their yellow suits.
