How to remember the creation of all twelve tenses the most effectively?
This method, which I will show you here, I made up for my students so that you could remember the creation quickly and could use it easily also after long time.
The main principle consists of several words. At first you have to remember them and know what they mean. Using those six words we are able to make up all twelve tenses.
present, past, future, perfect, simple, continuous
When we have in the name of the tense „present“, the verb does not change – we can say „nothing happens“.
The same it is with „simple“.
When we have in the name of the tense „past“, we use past form of the verb.
When we have in the name of the tense „continuous“, we put „be + -ing“.
When we have in the name of the tense „perfect“, we put „have + past participle“.
When we have in the name of the tense „future“, we put „will“ in the sentence.
Simplified:
present – nothing happens
past – we use past form
future – we use will
simple – nothing happens
continuous – be + -ing
perfect – have + past participle
In reality we have to combine these rules to produce wanted tense in correct form.
For example:
present simple – nothing + nothing = I work... = > no change
present continuous – nothing + be + - ing = I am working... = > be + - ing
past simple – past + nothing = I worked.... = > past
past continuous – past + be + - ing = I was working.... = > was/were + - ing
present perfect simple – nothing + have + past participle + nothing = I have worked... = > have + past participle
present perfect continuous – nothing + have + past participle+ be + -ing = I have been working. = > have been + - ing
past perfect simple – past + have + past participle+ nothing = I had worked. = > had + past participle
past perfect continuous – past+ have + past participle + be + - ing = I had been working... = > had been + - ing
future simple – will + nothing = I will work... = > will
future continuous – will + be + - ing = I will be working... = > will be + - ing
future perfect simple – will + have + past participle + nothing = I will have worked. = > will have + past participle
future perfect continuous – will + have + past participle+ be + - ing = I will have been working. = > will have been + -ing
